USAID – Clean Technology Initiative

Clean Technology Initiatives is a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project focussing upon Private Voluntary Initiatives to promote cleaner, climate friendly Technologies and improve environmental management practices. The CTI project supports the Indian Industry in reduction of green house gas (GHG) emission through Clean Technology Initiatives CTI aims to sustainably increase environmental protection while enhancing industrial productivity and competitiveness. CTI focuses on demonstration projects in industrial productivity and competitiveness. CTI is accelerating the adoption of cleaner technologies in these sectors by providing them with targeted technical and financial assistance.

The primary Government of India counterpart for CTI project is ICICI Ltd. The team partners from India are the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Development Alternatives (DA) and our US partner is Battelle. CTI draws expertise of Americans and Indian experts with adequate experience in pollution abatement and environmental protection.

The role of CTI in the broader perspective is not limited to advisory role on the technical aspects of environmental performance upgradation but also capacity building of the Indian industry. More specifically CTI project helps provide advisory and technical services to industry in

The project partner CII has facilitated different sectors in the Design and Implementation of EMS as per ISO 14001.

Greening the supply chain management (GSCM) and benchmarking were other initiatives undertaken by CII under CTI. The ISO design and implementation projects were undertaken in the Chemical and Drugs & Pharmaceutical sectors. As one of the project deliverables a Benchmarking Manual was developed for the Paint Sector.
