Growth, Equity and Sustainability are three essential parameters of a development process and balancing the stakes while designing and implementing such a process is a Herculean task. Industry and business are becoming increasingly concerned about achieving and demonstrating sound environmental performance because of the growing compulsions from stringent legislation and mounting public pressure.

One of the fundamental features of India's ancient philosophy has always been the respect for the Environment.

Ever since the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment in June, 1972, there has been a great proliferation of legislation and regulations in India to protect the environment in response to the challenge of Sustainable Development

India is the first country to incorporate protection of the environment, as one of the fundamental duties of every citizen in its Constitution under Article 48-A. Apart from specific environmental enactments, there are numerous provisions in many other enactments which address the degradation of environment and industrial pollution.
