CII – MOEF Workshop on
Hazardous Materials (Management, Handling and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2007
As you may be aware that the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), Government of India has recently (28 September, 2007) brought out the Draft on Hazardous Materials (Management, Handling and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2007 (copy is available on http://envfor.nic.in ) in supersession of the existing Hazardous Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules 1989.
It may be noted that MoEF is providing a time period of 60 days to submit suggestions / objections on the proposed Draft Rules.
We are pleased to inform you that Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) is organizing a series of workshops on Draft Rules to help Indian industries to understand its implication, and to discuss issues of concerns and possible solutions. Following are the major issues which will be discussed in the workshop :
- Implications on Hazardous Materials which has been added apart from hazardous wastes.
- Schedule – I has only characteristics of Hazardous Materials, no affirmative list of Hazardous Wastes any more
- Which hazardous materials would require Prior Informed Consent and which can be freely imported ?
- Who needs to get license from Central Pollution Control Board and procedure for Grant of License.
- And, many more such issues.
Apart from the said rules, workshops would also cover the CPCB’s Draft Guidelines for Environmentally Sound Management of E-waste and their implementation (copy is available on www.cpcb.nic.in). The workshops are scheduled to be held as follows:
