Workshop on Re-engineered Process of Environmental Clearance

As you are aware that the Final Notification on the Re-engineered Process of Environmental Clearance has been brought out by the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), Government of India on 14th September, 2006.
The new regime envisages a screening and scoping as additional steps. As many as 41 project categories now need prior environmental clearance as against 32 earlier. The new project categories include Industrial estates/parks/complexes/areas, EPZ, SEZ, Biotech Parks, Leather Complex, Common ETPs, Municipal Solid Waste Facilities, Building/Construction Projects/Area Development Projects and Townships and Isolated Storages and handling of hazardous chemicals etc.
The entire clearance process involves stages of Screening, Scoping, Public Consultation and Appraisal. Evidently, a large number of industrial as well as other developmental projects in a variety of sectors are going to be impacted by the new regulation.
We are pleased to inform you that Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Mineral Foundation of Goa (MFG) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) is organizing a workshop on 24 August 2007 Friday; at Hotel Mandovi to help Indian industries in general and Mining sector in particular to prepare themselves to meet the requirements of new notification, as well as clarifications on Interim Operational Guidelines issued by MoEF. |
